Welcome to Our School

On behalf of the staff, pupils, parents and governors I would like to welcome you to our school, we are very proud of our school ethos, "Living the Gospel in the spirit of love and respect".

At Saint Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School, we strive to ensure that all children feel happy, safe, secure and truly valued as individuals in our school family.

Mission & Aims

‘Living the Gospel in the Spirit of Love and Respect’

Saint Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School and Nursery aims to provide a rich, stimulating and encouraging environment where children can develop, grow and learn; to promote the Catholic faith and beliefs where each person is valued and protected.

R.E Curriculum

At Saint Wilfrid's the subject of R.E is taught through a Catholic Primary Religious Programme programme called “Come and See” in Year 1- 6 which is recommended and supported by the Diocese of Liverpool. Our EYFS have started the new Religious Education Directory, ‘To know You More Clearly' framework.

Our Parish

The parish of Saint Wilfrid's at Ashton-in-Makerfield began life as a district of the parish of St. Oswald's at Ashton and the parish of Holy Family at Platt Bridge. It was established to accommodate the needs of the growing Catholic population of Stubshaw Cross and Bamfurlong in the late 1950's.

In 1959 a small temporary timber framed church was built to provide a place of worship for the area. St. Wilfrid's church became a chapel of ease to St. Oswald's.

Picture News - What's going on this week?

Picture New is something that we share in school each week looking at what is happening in the wider world during our PHSE lessons. Each week we will be sending home ‘Picture News at Home’ to share with your children. It would be nice if the children would like to interact through discussions with yourselves at home and share this in their lessons but alternatively it just might be a nice discussion at home.
